Description
Throughout the semester, we have studied literary works by various nuns who have all been censored by the Vatican and Catholic authorities. Through our research, we have learned a brief history of nuns and also about various issues and movements for/against the habit and other freedoms and liberties for nuns. Our research has allowed us to focus on overarching and meaningful themes such as love, gender roles, sexuality, and relationships and to read about them from a religious as well as a social justice perspective. Our research has allowed us to hear the voices of censored sisters and to understand this extremely important yet often silenced group of amazingly intelligent women. Ultimately, we hope to understand what the future and the advent of a new and more liberal Pope might have in store for nuns in the Catholic Church.
