As part of the National Science Foundation Award for the Integration of Research and Education (NSF-AIRE) grant received by Colby College, a student research symposium was organized by the Dean of Faculty and the first annual session was held in April 2000.
A current College goal is to engage as many Colby students as possible in significant research projects that lead to presentation of results before their peers, at professional meetings, and in refereed publications. To further this goal, the multi-departmental student research symposium was initiated by Dean of Faculty, Edward Yeterian.
In 2014 the symposium was re-conceptualized and became CLAS: Colby Liberal Arts Symposium.
