Abstract
The theme of this study is individual freedom as expressed throughout Andre Gide's works. The object of th1~ study is to establish the contention that unremitting search for human freedom is the unifying trait in Gide' s personality and outlook on life and that it is the key to an understanding of his message. In this work I shall examine Gide's philosophy through his life and works in order to show that his philosophy of life is based on a realization that freedom comes with inquiry, self-analysis, and an acceptance of chosen duty.
