Political voting patterns in the southern Appalachian mountains
Abstract
This paper presents, in percentiles, the voting returns of 242 Southern Appalachian counties for the presidential elections of the previous one hundred years. It is with these statistics as a foundation that an analysis of the political behavior in these counties is developed. Voting results, as is the case with all statistics, must be analyzed with prudence and reservation. For this reason, that complete returns for all of the counties (on which this paper is based) have been included, can be incorrect and the included data are presented in order that further verification or investigation may be pursued.
