Abstract
Prior to this year, I had almost no contact with Chinese literature as such, other than in brief references in polictical/philosophical works. The Senior Scholar program offered a chance to devote a good deal of time to one area of study, so I embarked on what has been primarily a reading project. Novels, short stories and plays which have been recognized as being linked to the Chinese Revolution -- particularly the Communist Revolution -- were the primary materials of this project.
