Abstract
In this study I attempt to identify the problems modernization generates for American spirituality. I then discuss the transcendentalist literary response to these problems and then explore how T.S. Eliot uses these responses and moves forward with the solutions. Finally, I discuss the benefits of literature in the education of the world. Through education we can truly understand each other and using the transcendental solutions as a jumping off point, we can transcend the transcendentalists to solve the problems of our present age.
