Abstract
This collection of short stories is a work of speculative fiction. In “Bitter Waters,” a married couple contemplates the validity of a so-called truth serum. In “The Invitation,” a woman is drafted to repopulate the county after an illness kills most of the men. And in “Saint Maria’s Home for Murdered Girls,” a young woman learns the rules of the afterlife after she is killed.
