In April of 2014, three Colby students interested in careers in public health and medicine were selected to attended the TEDMED 2014 conference in Washington, D.C. TEDMED is described as the health and medicine version of the widely recognized TED conference, known for its slogan ideas worth spreading. TEDMED invites around thirty speakers to be a part of the 3-day programming line-up of its annual conference. Talks at the 2014 conference addressed health and medicine from a broad range of perspectives and disciplines. Conference speakers included notable innovators such as Elizabeth Holmes, founder and CEO of the medical technology company Theranos and the youngest self-made woman billionaire. TEDMED also invites a myriad of medical technology entrepreneurs to showcase their groundbreaking inventions in The Hive of the TEDMED conference center. Students who attended the September 2014 conference will reflect on what led them to apply for the opportunity, their experiences at TEDMED, as well as how those experiences have impacted their career goals regarding medicine and public health.
