Description

I am interesting in how colonial legacies and structural adjustment policies affected development in Central African Republic, Cote dIvoire, and Algeria. Today, according to World Bank reports, Central African Republic is a low-income country, Cote d'Ivoire is a lower-middle-income country and Algeria is an upper-middle-income country. These three countries were all French colonies. What aspects of French colonizing and independence led to the differences in situations of these three countries today? Under what conditions did France colonization help or hurt the future of these countries? How did structural adjustment policies help or hurt income inequality in these countries?
