Description
This project seeks to unpack the forces that have historically contributed to and impeded the elaboration of a collective Lebanese identity: from the fall of the Ottoman Empire, to the French mandate, and through national independence. Centering primarily on the civil war in Lebanon (1975-1990), a decisive moment in determining national unity, I have used Lebanese literature as a lens through which to examine the development of national identity in a post-conflict era.
