Description
Many war films have historically seen massive success in the American market. As such, they have a considerable influence on the American population. These films portray conflicts that US soldiers are involved in, most often from a more action-oriented point of view. Most recently, war films focus on the conflict in the Middle East, like our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Meanwhile, many Americans have only a vague understanding of the conflict, or even downright ignorance. I have seen many instances of Americans blatantly getting facts wrong, with clearly zero desire to learn the truth. I am researching whether these more recent war films, which are so successful and influential, are leading the general public the wrong way - whether these films accurately portray the facts and motivations in these conflicts. I examine the films' content, as well as analyze a variety of academic sources to make my argument.
