Description
This map shows the deer wintering areas, with the concentration on those protected by conserved lands used for wildlife refuge and nature reserves. The State of Maine shown is divided by wildlife management districts. Since deer are game species in Maine, they are barely protected. As shown in the map, among all the deer wintering areas, the proportion protected by wildlife conserved lands is small. The map uses the projected coordinate system NAD 1983 UTM Zone 19N, because the State of Maine is covered by this zone and the distortion should be limited. The data are from the Maine Office of GIS website and ESRI.
