Description
Monomoy Island and North Beach, both located in Chatham (Massachusetts) on the south east corner of Cape Cod, are dunes with great vulnerability to change during winter storms, when winds and tides are usually the strongest. The constantly shifting sand bars that make up this area are relied on by fishermen that navigate them daily, and families who have summer homes out on the dunes, of which a couple are washed away each winter. In this project, Landsat remote sensing data are used to analyze the movement of the sandbars and channels during extreme weather events. Analysis will include a measure of the overall accumulation or loss of sand.
