Description

In the presentation called \Adderall abuse\ I will address the issue of how and why a medication used to treat Attention-Deficit Disorder is abused nowadays. By examining the history of this product, I will describe the effective strategy used by Shire pharmaceutical company in order to supply great demand of the users around the country Attention deficit hyperactive disorder is a neurologically based behavioral disorder that afflicts children and adults alike. It is characterized by inability to pay attention, hyperactivity, and impulsive actions. Many prescription drugs that effectively target the levels of certain hormones have been released onto the market, which in turn enable one to counteract the symptoms of ADHD. An example is a brand name - Adderall, a combination of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine, which are central nervous system stimulants that are aimed at helping to restore the balance of neurotransmitters in the brain. Amphetamine and dextroamphetamine are type of drugs that can be habit-forming. However, drugs such as Adderall, which were developed solely for those properly diagnosed with the disorder, are beginning to be used recreationally by those whom admit to not having ADHD, but either find that they perform better with its aid or simply enjoy the high of the prescription drug. Some of the questions I decided to pose in my research paper are: What does this mean for college students? Is recreational use of this drug dangerous physically? Mentally? Does the use of Adderall by those not diagnosed with ADHD pose the threat of an addiction? Is an addiction to a drug that seems to make you more efficient a bad thing?
