Description

Over the past decade, economists have been study the impact that affirmative action has on college admissions rates and the process as a whole. In my paper, I would like to research how affirmative action has improved minoritys abilities to apply and be accepted to universities throughout America and also explore what the adverse affects of affirmative action in college admissions. I will also point out the numerous situations in which affirmative action is not only beneficial but necessary for minorities to receive equal opportunities even in todays societal setting. In my paper, I intend to first give an in depth background of what affirmative action is and how it came to be in the college admissions process. From there I would like to reference certain academic papers that have explored the situation and try to summarize and elaborate on their findings through other articles or papers that have been written on the topic. I hope recover some underlying findings and possibly some problems that may need to be addressed with the current system. To conclude my paper I intend to discuss the future of affirmative action in universities and their admissions process along with any possible changes that may be occurring to the system. Following I will summarize my findings and possible suggestions for improvement or need for change to the current situation if it applies to my research and findings.
