This presentation analyzes the image of the Inca as projected in los Comentarios reales de los Inca written by the first mestizo author of the colonial Americas, Garcilaso de la Vega. Los Comentarios reales is the first complete written history of the Incas and was published in Lisbon in 1609. In his work, Garcilaso compares and contrasts the Inca civilization with the Spanish civilization along cultural, administrative, social, historical, and religious lines.
