Description
The face of the American population will undergo major transformation over the next decade. Immigration is expected to reach levels that the country has not seen for several decades. As a result, the foreign-born share of the population will reach levels that are the highest in two centuries. In addition, an older population places a great weight on the working age population to provide health care and benefits to retired Americans benefits that are becoming more expensive to provide. Overall, these pervasive shifts in the US populations composition will deeply affect the demands society places on the governmentboth budgetary and otherwisein the coming decades.
