Description

At the Flagstaff location for Maine Huts and Trails, the Joules to Dollars class was introduced to Suzie, a 170,000 BTU/hr biomass gasification boiler capable. With 80% efficiency, she easily converts wood into heat, which is then stored in a water-battery before sent around the house. The water-battery is simply a large insulated tank of water, utilising thermal mass. This energy is used in the form of radiant floor heating, and domestic hot water supply. This poster is to describe the sustainability of an off-the-grid biomass heating system used in a remote setting.
