Finding the Words

Abstract

I have decided to title this project "Finding the Words," a title that is rather trite, but seems nevertheless profoundly relevant. This Senior Scholars Project was extremely difficult for me. There were moments of strength and wonder, but there were also far less glorious times. I was, from the beginning, almost completely halted by my own fears and self-criticism. It was extremely painful to actually write anything; each word that appeared on the page seemed somehow wrong. I had a very difficult time expressing myself, and trusting myself to actually just do it. I realize now that some of that was due to a change in process, but much of it was simple distrust of my ability to write anything important or engaging. It was exhausting to run up against my fears and to struggle for every sentence that I created.
