State of the world's promise: the children are waiting...

Abstract

The objectives of the World Summit for Children for the year 2000 are extensive, as they cover a wide range of problems affecting the children of today. In my research, I have grouped these goals into five major areas: infant and maternal mortality; malnutrition; water and sanitation; basic education; and the Convention on the Rights of the Child. All of these goals, although very different, are inter-connected; for each area, affects the otber, whether directly or indirectly. I will focus on the progress (accomplishments, failures and actions) of United Nation's agencies, IGO's, NGO's, Governments and communities within specific regions, around the world from the time the declaration was signed through today. I will then assess the reality of reaching the goals by the year 2000 based on past progress and future motivation. After all, the children are waiting...
