Description
How noise translates into confidence in Taiko Drumming at Colby is an area of the colleges club culture that has not been examined in detail. The goal of my research is to examine Taiko Drumming and how the performers manifest confidence while playing through sonic and physical means. By observing Taiko rehearsals and interviewing various participants, I will gain a better understanding of these intersections and draw conclusions about confidence and the creation of energy by members of the club and why the sound appeals to listeners. My findings suggest that Taiko creates a unique musical experience for its members and the audience they perform for. Using their body, performers of Taiko create certain levels of noise and energy through various confidence levels, which draws students to join the club and attend performances.
