Abstract
The pinacol rearrangement reaction was studied on 3-methylcyclohexyl-3-methylcyclohexane-1 ,1'-diol. The idea that there is not a statistical ratio among products in reductive coupling of carbonyl compounds was investigated in the reaction of aluminum metal and its role in the formation of the pinacols. Cyclic sulfites are being investigated as tools to see if we can better understand the structure of diols. Lastly, the thermal extrusion of S0? from the sulfites as a method for non-acid pinacol rearrangement was studied.
