Description

Musical theater on Broadway and Off-Broadway has changed in the past half century, moving away from the feel-good musical comedy style of Rodgers and Hammerstein. Musicals have begun to address current hot topics in an effort to keep up with the interests and issues of modern society. This attention to social issues has shaped contemporary musical theater into a snapshot of American society that reflects cultural themes through performance.
