Description

This study is designed to assess the risks to human health of the UV screen Benzophenone-3 (BP-3, Oxybenzone). Benzophenone-3 is added to many chemical sunscreens in the U.S. It is an effective UV Screen but there also evidence supporting its effects as an endocrine system disruptor, there is evidence it both its estrogenic and anti-androgenic effects. In order to assess the risks to human health of Benzophenone-3 a review of the scientific literature will be made. By assessing the toxcicity and exposure levels a level of risk will be determined. Also the chemical structure will be considered and compared to the chemical structure of other known endocrine disruptors. A review of the policy surrounding Benzophenone-3 will also be completed. A comprehensive understanding of the risks of Benzophenone-3 will reached and presented in order to inform the public.
