Description
In 2012, Colby Womens Ice Hockey celebrated their 40th anniversary as a team. Many stories were exchanged about the beginnings of the team and this sparked my interest in a research project. As a current member of the Colby Womens Ice Hockey team, I aimed this research into the earlier years of the team, hoping to find signs of evolution within the team, and direct links to national issues such as Title IX. My research found that CWIH was influential in Colby athletics, as well as national womens athletics, participating in the first intercollegiate game. Through interviews with former players, special collections research, and Echo archives, it is clear that CWIH has been a strong force on Colby campus the past 40 years.
