Description

As an often ostracized group from society, the mentally ills path to social acceptance is not easy. To fully understand our current health care system in regards to mental illness, the steps one takes when diagnosed as mentally ill as well, as the hardships one will face, this paper will address the question: to what extent is the effectiveness of modern diagnosis and treatments on mental illnesses? From sociological theory to the biological sciences, this topic has been closely scrutinized and identified as a prevalent issue in our society. Due to the complexity of this topic, however, no one definite conclusion has been accepted as true. This paper aims to address both sides of this issue by analyzing the basis of diagnoses, the consequences of misdiagnoses, and common treatments of mental illness as well as the assimilation of those with mental illnesses back into mainstream society. Alongside this analysis, this paper will highlight the intricacies and complications that are interwoven throughout the issue.
