Abstract or Description

This map illustrates the location of FEMA flood zones along the coast of Maine, with special emphasis on Acadia and the Greater Portland Area. The map also includes the proximity of these flood zones to Red Cross and County Emergency Management Agency Stations as well as larger cities, rivers, and lakes. The map was projected in NAD83 UTM Zone 19N.

About the Author

Gavin Blake is a student at Colby College currently pursuing a major in Environmental Science and a minor in Economics. At Colby, he is a member of Colby Swimming and Diving and the Student Government Association Finance Committee. He hails from Kirkland, Washington.

Source Data Note

All of the data for my project were sourced from the Maine Office of GIS. I used the Flood Insurance Q3 Data and divided it into two flood zone types based on whether they were considered inside or outside of the Special Flood Hazard Area.
